      A Child and Youth Care Worker is a specialist in facilitating change, relationship building and learning in children or adolescents experiencing a range of social, emotional, behavioural, or learning challenges. 

      Keyin's 88-week Child and Youth Care Worker with Addictions Support program develops therapeutic skills and abilities in students, enabling them to work therapeutically with "at risk" populations and other professionals concerned with the care, treatment, safety and future outcomes of children and adolescents.

      Students will receive additional training in Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention, and courses focusing on the growing concern of youth addictions and behviours. 

      Graduates will be qualified to work in the rewarding and diverse field of child and youth care.  Our well educated students go out into the field working in child protection and group homes, non-profit, after school programs, non-government organizations, disability supports, and many other interesting and diverse careers.

    • Hairstylist

      Hairstyle

      The training focus of the Hairstylist program is to provide students with the skills, knowledge and experience to work as a Hairstylist or Barber. Students acquire all the fundamentals of nail care, make-up application, esthetics, color analysis and much more. Our program specializes in Hair Design instructing students on how to cut, style, perm, color, and many more valuable skills. The practical experience you acquire in our salon will develop your expertise in hairstyling and shop management.

      Apprenticeship Training

      The Hairstylist program is an apprenticeable trades program. These courses, completed at Keyin College, will represent partial completion of requirements for Journeyperson status under the Interprovincial Red Seal Certification. Once this training is complete and the student secures employment in the trade, he/she must register as an apprentice with the Industrial Training Division, Department of Advanced Education Skills and Labour.

    • Personal Care Attendant

      A Personal Care Attendant (PCA) is a member of the interdisciplinary team who is responsible for providing support to clients in all aspects of daily living through companionships, physical, spiritual, and psychosocial care.  PCAs support and promote independence, safety, and quality of life for clients across the lifespan. PCAs provide client-centred care under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN).  In Newfoundland and Labrador, PCAs are considered unregulated health care workers as they are not a licensed or regulated profession.  However, standardized curriculum assists the effective and efficient use of PCAs as part of the interdisciplinary team in institutional settings across the province. The Personal Care Attendant Educational Program is 30 weeks in duration and consists of two semesters, each containing 15 weeks.  Travel to other institutions/agencies will be required for clinical and may be required for some laboratory offerings.  Students are responsible for transportation to/from clinical and laboratory experiences; these travel hours are not included in the program hours. PLEASE NOTE: This Personal Care Attendant Program (2018) curriculum was prepared by the Centre for Nursing Studies for the Department of Health and Community Services, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, in Consultation with the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, and the Regional Health Authorities for training in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador through public and private institutions.

      Therapupic-Rec

      Therapeutic Recreation is a growing career field that will give graduates the opportunity to become part of a health service delivery system that addresses the needs of individuals with various disabilities, illnesses and special needs.

      This program will focus on leisure and recreation as essential components of an individual’s overall health and wellness. As Recreation Therapy workers, graduates will assist clients with leisure and recreational opportunities in ways that contribute to clients’ health, independence, and well-being.

      Graduates of this program will be prepared with the skills necessary to develop approved recreation and leisure activities. The training will emphasize various program designs for the clinical/hospital, geriatric, psychiatric, long-term care, and general recreation and community settings. Graduates will be diverse in their potential employment opportunities and will be equipped to work in many different settings. These include clinical, community, and entrepreneurial settings as well as private agencies and non-profit organizations.

    • Accounting Payroll & Business Administration

      PROGRAM DURATION:  81 Weeks Academic | 4 Week Work Term
      The objective of this program is to expose the student to the most relevant aspects of business management and administration, while providing students with the tools for a career in business.  This program also gives the student hands-on training in the key areas of financial accounting and payroll, business application software, and in the implementation and operation of computerized accounting systems.  Practical, rather than theoretical is stressed.  The successful graduate will have the necessary skills to keep a set of books, both manually and on a computerized system. The Canadian Payroll Association offers the only payroll certifications in Canada. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification: The Canadian Payroll Association's PCP certification is the foundation for a successful career in payroll.  Certification provides an in-depth understanding of the legislative requirements to keep your organization compliant throughout the annual payroll cycle, and means you join a growing community of highly engaged professionals. PCP certification requires three core payroll courses, one transfer of credit and one year of weighted, related work experience:
      1. Payroll Compliance Legislation (PCL)
      2. Payroll Fundamentals 1 (PF1)
      3. Payroll Fundamentals 2 (PF2)
      4. Introduction to Accounting (transfer of credit; offered at post-secondary institutions)

      This program is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in administering and supporting users on networked systems.  Graduates may successfully compete for positions such as Network Administrator, Technical Support Specialist and Help-Desk Troubleshooter.

      Keyin's 83-week ISS program focuses on networks and associated certifications as well as, hardware installation and configuration, operating systems, peer-to-peer networking, Office 2010, internet explorer, Windows configuration, Windows server and WINS, RAS and DHCP.

      This program helps students prepare for certification examinations in computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) A+ and Network+ Certifications, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert:  Server Infrastructure (MCSE), Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) and, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

Students will learn to identify the critical issues related to children’s health, safety and nutrition. In addition, the program will aim to promote safety practices, risk management, strategies for nutritional balance, and overall good health and well being.

      This program will provide students with the necessary skills to work in a variety of child care services. They are employed in child-care centers, kindergartens, nursery schools, agencies for exceptional children, and other environments where early childhood education services are provided, or they may be self-employed. Example position titles may include child care worker, daycare worker or early childhood educator.

    • Heavy Equipment Operator

      Heavy Equipment Operator

      The Heavy Equipment Operator program provides an introduction to the heavy equipment industry and basic heavy equipment operation. Each student will receive 60 hours operating time on an Excavator, Front End Loader and Tandem Dump Truck. Additionally, students will learn grades reading, safety procedures and heavy equipment maintenance. Upon successful completion, students will have obtained their Class 3 license with a Class 9 endorsement.

      This program is recognized by the Apprenticeship and Certification Board as a Provincial Apprentice Trade.

    • Law Enforcement Foundations

      Law Enforcement Foundations
      The Law Enforcement Foundations program prepares students for a career in justice and related systems.  The program emphasizes the humanistic and preventative side of law enforcement and security administration.  Students will study public and private policing, institutional security, security management, security systems, corrections, forensics, computer applications, and applied psychology.  In addition, students will study the Canadian legal system, trial procedures, and criminal deviant behaviour. Please note that due to the nature of this career, employees are required to tolerate regular physical activity during the course of their work day. If you have any medical concerns, please contact your admissions officer to ensure you are aware of the requirements of the occupation and to determine if you are eligible for accommodations in this program.
      Employment Opportunities
      Upon successful completion of the Law Enforcement Foundations program, graduates may be eligible for employment (depending on specific hiring practices) with various agencies, both public and private, in the Canadian justice system.  Graduates can use their newly acquired training and legal knowledge to seek employment with Municipal Enforcement agencies, College Campus Enforcement, Industrial Security sectors, Airport Security personnel, Armoured Guard companies, as well as other related career paths. NOTE:  For positions into the Canadian Forces, Departments of Justice, RCMP, Ryerson Police, or other police departments, you must meet their requirements and pass their entrance exam and fitness test.

      Today, software developers are in high demand, and this trend is expected to continue over the coming decade.  A career in software development can be fulfilling, financially rewarding, and offers many opportunities for advancement.  Keyin's Software Development program takes you to the cutting edge of today's technology in an easy to follow and engaging manner.  Working in Agile teams, students are exposed to the collaborative environments found in many leading technology companies.  In addition, team projects in each semester can be used to build the student's portfolio of work in preparation for graduation. This 64 week program provides training on key software skills that are highly relevant in the local technology sector, as well as across other major markets in Canada and the USA.  Taught by expert instructors with real industry experience, the program prepares graduates for entry level software jobs in front-end and back-end software development, DevOps and software design. The program will be delivered over 4 semesters:
      • Semester I: Software Foundations
      • Semester II: Front-End Software Development
      • Semester III: Back-End Software Development
      • Semester IV: DevOps and Software Design
